Nico fires up the grill outside of her building in New York’s East Village to prepare food for people affected by Hurricane Sandy. The block of Avenue C between 9th and 10th streets, which houses C-Squat and the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space, became a social center of the neighborhood in the hurricane’s aftermath. Hundreds of pounds of food were donated by local stores and restaurants to be prepared and distributed for free to anyone who came by.
